SUMMARY: The Aircraft Mechanic is responsible to provide safe, effective and efficient FAA Part 141 operations support for the University that is in accordance all local, state, and federal guidelines.
The Aircraft Mechanic must also uphold the philosophy and mission of the University while instilling positive and progressive attitudes in all students.
JOB REQUIREMENTS include but are not limited to the following: COMPLIANCE:
Responsible for compliance with all local, state, accreditation and federal regulations.
Ensure that all employees and students are held accountable to the company’s policies and procedures and applicable laws.
Ensure completeness, accuracy, and security of campus files, documents and reports.
Review all necessary policies and procedures to ensure a culture of compliance. ESSENTIAL AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE DUTIES:
Read and interpret maintenance manuals, service bulletins, and other specifications to determine the feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
Maintain repair logs, documenting all preventive and corrective aircraft maintenance.
Conduct routine and special inspections as required by regulations.
Check for corrosion, distortion, and invisible cracks in the fuselage, wings, and tail, using x-ray and magnetic inspection equipment.
Examine and inspect aircraft components, including landing gear, hydraulic systems, and deicers to locate cracks, breaks, leaks, or other problems.
Inspect airframes for wear or other defects.
Maintain, repair, and rebuild aircraft structures, functional components, and parts such as wings and fuselage, rigging, hydraulic units, oxygen systems, fuel systems, electrical systems, gaskets, and seals.
Measure the tension of control cables.
Replace or repair worn, defective, or damaged components, using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment
Measure parts for wear, using precision instruments.
Assemble and install electrical, plumbing, mechanical, hydraulic, and structural components and accessories, using hand or power tools
Disassemble engines and inspect parts, such as turbine blades and cylinders, for corrosion, wear, warping, cracks, and leaks, using precision measuring instruments, x-rays, and magnetic inspection equipment.

Test operation of engines and other systems, using test equipment such as ignition analyzers, compression checkers, distributor timers, and ammeters.
Obtain fuel and oil samples and check them for contamination.
Reassemble engines following repair or inspection and reinstall engines in aircraft.
Read and interpret pilots' descriptions of problems to diagnose causes.
Modify aircraft structures, space vehicles, systems, or components, following drawings, schematics, charts, engineering orders, and technical publications.
Install and align repaired or replacement parts for subsequent riveting or welding, using clamps and wrenches. QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma and air frame rating and a power plant rating: (1)Hold a currently effective mechanic certificate with both an air frame rating and a power plant rating, each of which is currently effective and has been in effect for a total of at least 3 years;
(2)Have been actively engaged, for at least the 2-year period before the date he applies, in maintaining aircraft certificated and maintained in accordance with this chapter;
(3)Have a fixed base of operations at which he may be located in person or by telephone during a normal working week but it need not be the place where he will exercise his inspection authority;
(4)Have available to him the equipment, facilities, and inspection data necessary to properly inspect air frames, power plants, propellers, or any related part or appliance.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to interact in a pleasant and professional manner with all types of people.
Ability to work well under pressure, manage multiple priorities, set and meet deadlines and manage unexpected situations.
Previous experience beneficial.
Strong technology skills necessary.
Management and/or supervisory training preferred.
TRAVEL DEMANDS: Travel to various conferences and/or trainings may require overnight stays, and the number of nights is dictated by company and/or by the schedule of events.
This individual must have the ability to travel to various locations as necessary.
Must have vehicle suitable to safe and secure transportation.
This individual may be required to transport company documents and/or company assets.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business communications, financial reports, legal documents, and some government reports.
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
Ability to write correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information to students, top management and/or public groups.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
