Overview
- Air Operations Officers command, control, and coordinate air and space forces in tactical, operational, and strategic environments.
- Typical employment includes unit and wing operations, air and space operations centres, joint ops and plans, and strategic roles.
Work Environment
- May be employed across the CAF, typically within the RCAF.
- Begin careers in flying or space squadrons/wings to develop capability specific awareness.
- May be employed around the world from airfields, ships, or in the field with the Army.
Entry Plans
- Direct Entry Options for those with a university degree.
- Regular Officer Training Plan: CAF pays for a bachelor degree at the Royal Military College System.
- Must complete Basic Military Officer Qualification training (12 weeks).
Training
- Basic Military Officer Occupation Qualification at CF Leadership and Recruit School.
- Basic Air Operations Officer Course at Barker College in Winnipeg (18 20 weeks).
- Further training includes Air Force Officer Development program and Basic Space Operations Course.
Part Time Options
- Reservists work part time for an Air Reserve Flight or integrated squadron.
- May volunteer for deployment on operational missions.
- Tuition reimbursement up to $2000 per year for university courses.
