The AI Engineering Intern contributes to the design and development of generative AI applications and agentic solutions for Bain clients.
The role provides exposure to the full AI development lifecycle, from early prototyping through production-ready deployment.

AI engineering work
- Contribute to GenAI applications such as copilots, workflow automation, and decision support using modern LLM stacks.
- Support RAG, fine-tuning, parameter-efficient tuning, embedding optimization, and vector, graph, or keyword retrieval.
- Assist with tool use, function calling, orchestration, context engineering, memory, and state management.
- Support model experimentation, evaluation design, deployment, testing, monitoring, and iteration.
- Contribute to regression test suites, automated scoring, observability, evaluation harnesses, and reusable components.
- Support responsible AI through guardrails, fallbacks, human-in-the-loop workflows, and alignment with Bain standards.
- Contribute to data preparation, feature engineering, model selection, training, validation, testing, and performance analysis.
- Collaborate with technical teammates, communicate findings, and support client discussions and documentation.
About you
- 0–2+ years of AI or ML engineering experience, or equivalent experience through internships, research, academic projects, or open-source contributions.
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a bachelor's, master's, or PhD in CS, ML, AI, data science, engineering, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent early-career experience.
- Strong academic performance or demonstrated excellence through research, projects, internships, competitions, or open-source contributions.
- Proficiency in Python and some experience building APIs or services such as REST or gRPC.
- Experience building complex, multi-stack generative AI programs from conception through production.
- Exposure to retrieval and search systems and to agentic patterns; hands-on agent experience is preferred.
- Strong practices in testing, code review, version control, CI/CD, and performance profiling.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and interest in client-facing AI applications.
- Fluency in English and Arabic is required.
Working model and travel
- The role requires a minimum of three days per week working together in person at a client location or Bain home office.
- Travel may be required beyond the home office or primary working location, with frequency and destination varying by project needs.
