Internship overview

CIBC is hiring a 2027 Summer Software Engineering Intern.

The intern will support secure, reliable, and innovative technology solutions for clients and the business.

What you'll be doing

  • Develop, code, test, and debug applications and system enhancements across the software development life cycle.
  • Participate in technical design, development, and integration activities across platforms.
  • Collaborate with technology and business partners to identify issues and support effective solutions.
  • Gain exposure to banking products, services, regulatory requirements, and core systems.
  • Complete training and apply learning to daily work.

How you'll succeed

  • Support software development, testing, debugging, and application management activities.
  • Partner with technology and business teams on cross-functional, multi-platform applications.
  • Review programming systems, identify issues, and help implement quality solutions.
  • Support regulatory, information security, and internal policy requirements.
  • Participate in training, mentorship, community outreach, and leadership development.

Who you are

  • Currently enrolled as a junior or senior in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Expected graduation date is between December 2026 and June 2027.
  • Foundational knowledge of the software development life cycle, Oracle, SQL, batch processing, FTP, SFTP, and firewalls.
  • Programming experience such as Python and willingness to learn new tools and technologies.
  • Knowledge of artificial intelligence or security tools and concepts is considered an asset.
  • Clear communication and effective collaboration in a dynamic environment.

Work arrangement

  • The proportion of on-site and remote work will be discussed during the interview.

Compensation

  • Expected hourly rate is $36 to $40 per hour for the Illinois market, based on experience, qualifications, and location.
